So many emotions have flooded my mind since Gage was diagnosed just three weeks ago. Often, it has been hard for me to verbalize just how I feel. On a whim, I picked up a pen and started to write. Although I don’t remember ever writing poetry before, it felt like the only appropriate way for me to express my feelings. Here is one of the poems I wrote. I think it says it best . . .
Like Days Before
Suddenly, the sun refuses to shine
Leukemia has robbed this boy of mine
The sounds of summer have faded away
My boy, no longer, can go out to play
Oh, how I long for the days from before
When my son’s hair did not fall to the floor
Before chemotherapy was the norm
And the teardrops down his face did not form
The different blood cells doctors explain
While nothing appears to relieve his pain
Day and night in the hospital we stay
While close friends and family come our way
“Your boy is cured,” we long to hear some day
For that, there is nothing I would not pay
Until that day, on our knees we will pray
All our fears and cares, at Your feet, we lay
On the road to a cure . . .

Blake and Rebecca,
We truly can not imagine the faith walk you are on right now. And we can not imagine the heartwrenching view you have of Gage’s life… and the spiritual battle you must face to trust the LORD with all your heart. You encourage us, and we continue to pray OFTEN for you. Be encouraged by God’s Word–Psalm 34 is a favorite when faced with trials.

I was reading “the Ragamuffin Gospel” (brennan manning) today and came across something that made me think of you guys…
“The conversion from mistrust to trust is wrought at the foot of the cross. ..there is an essential connection between experiencing God, loving God, and trusting God. You will trust God only as much as you love Him. And you will love Him to the extent you have touched Him, rather that He has touched you….Only love empowers the leap in trust, the courage to risk everything on Jesus, the readiness to move into the darkness guided only by a pillar of fire. Trust clings to the belief that whatever happens in our lives is designed to teach us holiness.The love of Christ inspires trust to thank God for the nagging headache, … the spiritual darkness that envelops us; to say with Job, ‘If we take happiness from God’s hand, should we not take sorrow too’ (Job 2:10).”
Praying for Gage’s healing, for unwavering joy, and that the Lord would shower you all with His love so that you can faithfully trust that He is teaching you holiness.

Blake and Rebecca,
Judy and I pray for Gage and your family that God will continue to show His mercy, His unfailing love, and His great compassion as you go through this difficult trial.
We know that nothing is impossible with God and our pray along with you is that the Lord will carry Gage down that road that leads to a cure.
Following Jesus, who is the way, the truth, and the life,
Jim and Judy
Blake and Rebecca,
I think of you every day. Rebecca, I heard that song you were talking about this morning Sunday 15th. I read your journey each day and am touched by the presence of the Lord. I love you, am praying for you and want to help. I want to love on you both and your children. I am reminded of God’s provision for the Israelites…manna from Heaven…each day as a provision for that day. Living one day at a time, enjoying one moment at a time, accepting hardship as a pathway to peace, taking as Jesus did this sinful world as it is, not as I would have it, trusting that you will make all things right as I surrender to your will…..Serenity Prayer…I see Leigh Montgomery on most Monday nights and will find a way to love you with hands and feet.

Blake and Rebecca:
I am praying for you… up much of last night thinking about you all and praying for your rest. Praying that you all are experiencing His peace today. Please let me know if there is anything I can do to help with the kiddos.
Find rest, Holmes’ family, in God alone;
your hope comes from Him.
He alone is your Rock and your Salvation;
He alone is your Fortress, you will not be shaken.
Your salvation and your honor depend on God;
He is your mighty Rock, your Refuge;
Trust in Him at all times, Holmes’ family;
pour out your hearts to Him,
for God is your refuge.
Psalm 62:5-8

Blake and Rebecca,
We at PCBC just returned from Camp - where 4 years ago Blake’s preaching inspired us all and we got to meet the Holmes’ family, including an infant, Gage. We will pray for Gage’s healing and for God’s peace to guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.
Love,
Pike and Andria
Blake and Rebecca,
I think of how frightening and frustrating this is for you, and I know we would all love to somehow just take it away…make it not so. I know the Lord has been and will continue to be glorified through your struggle and through your perseverance, and for that I praise Him. You guys are tough and so is that son of yours. I’m praying for strength and courage.
Remember:
“The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.” Exodus 14:14
